“One and two and three and four and...” could be heard coming loud and clear from the classroom above Andy’s Sport Shop on April 26. Club member and NAUI instructor, Jim McCabe presented a CPR/First Aid course for the club membership. The course was offered for those interested in obtaining their NAUI CPR/First Aid certification. Not only is this a good education for divers, but is also good knowledge to have in everyday life. One never knows when they might run into an emergency medical situation. The class began with a brief introduction about Jim and his experience as well as a general overview of what would be covered in class. Following some lecture time the students had the opportunity to perform chest compressions and rescue breathing on some specialized mannequins. After some lunch and a bit more lecture the participants had the opportunity to practice bandaging, splinting, and doing the Heimlich maneuver. When all was said and done the class had a good grasp of how to handle anything from a heart attack to a snake bite. On behalf of the members that took the course, I would like to thank Jim McCabe for offering the class and for making it so fun and enjoyable! |
